A spiritual and cultural journey through the monasteries of Ladakh in 7 Days / 6 Night
Upon arrival at Leh airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The day is reserved for acclimatizing to Ladakh’s high altitude. In the evening, take a relaxed walk around the old Leh Market, visit Shanti Stupa for a beautiful sunset view, and explore Leh Palace, a historic monument with sweeping views of the valley. Overnight stay in Leh.
Begin the day with a drive to the Indus Valley. Your first stop is Shey Palace, the former summer capital of Ladakh, housing a giant copper-gilded Buddha statue. Continue to Thiksey Monastery, a majestic structure built on a hill that resembles the Potala Palace in Lhasa. Then visit Hemis Monastery, Ladakh’s largest monastic institution, known for its annual mask dance festival and spiritual vibrancy. Return to Leh by evening.
Today you’ll head west along the Indus River to reach Alchi Monastery, famous for its 11th-century frescoes and Kashmiri-style architecture, unique in Ladakh. En route, stop at Basgo Monastery, known for its historical ruins and mud-brick temples. Also visit the spectacular Sangam — the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers — and witness the magnetic effects of Magnetic Hill. Return to Leh or overnight at a local guesthouse near Alchi.
Drive further west to explore Lamayuru Monastery, believed to be one of the oldest in Ladakh. It’s located amidst a bizarre and beautiful landscape known as Moonland, with terrain that looks like the surface of the moon. Explore the monastery, interact with monks, and enjoy a peaceful walk in the village before heading back to Leh by evening.
After breakfast, visit Phyang Monastery, perched on a hill and surrounded by wide fields. It houses a rich collection of Buddhist artifacts and thangkas. Later, proceed to Spituk Monastery, offering panoramic views over the Indus Valley and the airport below. Return to Leh in the afternoon for some free time to relax or shop for souvenirs.
Today, visit Stok Palace, still home to Ladakh’s royal family, and explore its museum that houses royal garments, artifacts, and religious relics. Later, explore Matho Monastery, one of the lesser-visited monasteries with a peaceful ambiance and a reputation for its oracle monks. Return to Leh in the evening and enjoy your final night in the heart of the Himalayas.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Leh Airport for your onward journey. Carry with you the blessings of Ladakh’s sacred spaces and timeless serenity.
